Soma Recordings brings the Soma Skool to Aberdeen, an event designed to demystify the mechanics behind the music and creative industries. Based on a concept explaining how to turn a demo CD into a final release, the Soma Skool invites the best producers, artwork designers, and music experts along to explain the processes involved in order to shed light on the inner workings of the music industry.
Expect music and software demos from Soma producers, compelling Q & A sessions from top DJ's and bands, informative and experienced panelists and first-rate advice from professionals all working at the top of their trade.
SOMA SKOOL AIMS TO:
- show the processes behind making a piece of music using pioneering technologies and software.
- show the methods that are involved when releasing a track, including artwork, video and marketing plans.
- offer advice on how to start up a creative business.
- demonstrate the wide ranging spectrum of jobs available within the music industry and encourage the pursuit of a creative career.
Main Stage Demonstrations
The major elements of putting out a record are explained; the music, the artwork, the promo video.
- Music production: major software packages such as Logic, Reason, Cubase from acts Funk D' Void, Vector Lovers, Alex Smoke and Sidewinder.
- Artwork design: a demonstration of the thought processes behind creating artwork, the importance of artwork within the complete overview of a release.
- Video promo: an explanation of the importance of a promo for the release. All the important aspects explained. A video will be made for one of the tracks.
IDEASFACTORY SCOTLAND Seminars
IDEASFACTORY Scotland is an initiative from Channel 4 to help young people get in, and get on in, the creative industries. This is a blended online and offline resource covering all aspects of the creative industries in Scotland. IDEASFACTORY Scotland host the following seminars in conjunction with Soma Skool to show the many career opportunities that are available within the music and creative industries:
- Brave new world - the new technology you need to know about.
- Keep it legal - artists, managers, and staying on the right side of the law.
- Muso - making it in music journalism and photography.
- Signing on - how, and why, to set up your own record label.
Featuring professionals working in the music industry throughout the day to offer advice and encouragement in getting into the creative industries.
